Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 6, 2026
This policy explains what personal information Sal's Famous (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects through our website and online ordering service, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do about it. It applies to www.salsfamous.com and our online ordering pages.
We are a single restaurant in Gibbons, Alberta. We do not sell personal information, we do not run advertising trackers on this site, and we collect only what we need to take an order and get it to you.
What we collect
When you place an order, we ask for and store:
- Your name
- Your phone number — so the kitchen or driver can reach you about your order
- Your email address — for your order confirmation
- Your delivery address — only if you choose delivery; we do not ask for it on pickup orders
- The contents of your order, the total, and any tip
We also record how you arrived at our site — for example, whether you came from a link we posted on Instagram or Facebook, or from a search engine. This is stored in a cookie on your device for 30 days and attached to your order so we can tell which of our own posts actually bring people in. It records the source only. It does not follow you to other websites.
Payment information
We never see or store your card number. Card payments are handled entirely by Clover, our payment processor. Your card details are entered into a secure form hosted by Clover and go directly to them. What comes back to us is a transaction reference and whether the payment succeeded.
When a card payment is made, your device's IP address is passed to Clover. Clover requires this for its fraud checks — without it, legitimate first-time orders get declined. It is used for that purpose and no other.
How we use it
- To prepare, print and fulfil your order
- To contact you if there is a problem with your order
- To take payment through Clover
- To understand which of our own posts and links bring in orders
- To keep our own sales records, as any business must
We do not use your information to send marketing emails, and we do not add you to any mailing list for ordering from us.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising. We use a small number of service providers to run the business, and your information reaches them only to the extent needed:
- Clover— payment processing, and the kitchen order display in our restaurant.
- Vercel and Neon— the hosting and database services that run this website and store orders.
- Telegram— if an order fails to print, an alert containing your name, phone number and order total is sent to the owner's phone so the order is not lost. This is how we make sure a paid order still gets made.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our staff or our customers.
Cookies
This site uses a small number of cookies. None of them are advertising cookies.
- Attribution— records how you arrived at the site, kept for 30 days.
- Staff sign-in— keeps restaurant staff signed in to the private admin area. It is never set for customers.
- Your cart— held in your browser's local storage so your order survives a page refresh. It stays on your device.
There is no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel and no third-party advertising tracker on this website.
How long we keep it
We keep order records, including your name, contact details and delivery address, as part of our business records. Kitchen tickets are held only briefly and are deleted automatically once printed. If you would like your details removed from our order history, contact us and we will do so, except where we are required to retain records for tax or accounting purposes.
Your choices
Under Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you may ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete your details from our records, subject to our record-keeping obligations
Write to us using the contact details below and we will respond within a reasonable time. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings, though the site may not work properly without them.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Orders are transmitted over an encrypted connection and stored with our hosting providers. Card details never reach our systems. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect, which limits what can be exposed.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date above. If we ever start using analytics or advertising tools, this page will say so before we do.
